I knew it. You knew it… and now the world knows it.   Keith is officially a ‘Good Egg’!

The CISI is the UK’s professional body for financial planning and they use the annual Financial Planning conference to announce their award winners. This year the event was held at the impressive St George’s Hall in Liverpool, with myself, Keith, Tom, Gabby and Nick in attendance.

The Tony Sellon ‘Good Egg’ Memorial Prize

Tony Sellon played a critical part in the early days of financial planning in the UK, as he was a founding member and president of the then Institute of Financial Planning. He died tragically of cancer in 2001, yet he is remembered in particular for his sense of fun – a real ‘good egg’. Individuals are nominated by CISI members and the winner is the individual judged to have contributed most to the financial planning profession, their team, firm, or CISI branch.

Tony’s son James (pictured above) presented the award to Keith after sharing these thoughts:

“This year’s Good Egg award goes to someone whose career and life is about becoming the best they can be. Someone who is known as a person of influence and supporter of others, as well as a passionate supporter of charitable causes.

In his early days as a financial adviser he dedicated his time to building his business from the grass roots. More recently his focus has been on developing the team at his growing financial planning practice.

Rounding off his successful career, he’s put succession plans in place at his firm, leaving him ever increasing amounts of time to serve the wider profession.

What really stands out to others is his generosity of spirit and dedication to the profession and all of his peers. He willingly shares his experience and resources.  He also gives away his time and has served as a mentor, even to some of you in the room today.

He is very active in helping our next generation of financial planners learn how to deliver proper financial planning and has encouraged many to take the CFP case study; to become a better financial planner, and not just to “pass the test”.

Promoting and living the values of lifestyle led financial planning and CFP certification remains a personal priority, always finding the time to make himself available to those seeking support either on the phone, or on his boat!

He is without a doubt a ‘good egg’ and for that reason it gives me great pleasure to present the Tony Sellon “Good Egg” award to…Keith Butten”

This is a particularly nice award to win, as you do not nominate yourself or apply to win. People outside of boosst have taken note of Keith’s contributions to the profession and gone to the effort of completing a formal nomination, which is a wonderful gesture. Of those nominated, the judges deemed Keith to have given the most to our profession.

Keith was invited on stage to collect his award and asked to give a short speech… and of course delivered the perfect words for the occasion with no notice. Some might say he is a ‘Good media-trained Egg’ too!!

Well done Dad, we’re all hugely proud 👏🏼
