The boossties have been working hard during this final leg of 2023 as we approach December and the festive break. We’ve continued to learn and have fun along the way – here’s a summary of our activities since our September update…
Team Activities!
In the last few months, our Wellness team have been on overdrive – possibly because they realised there was Wellness Budget going unspent! We kicked things off with some intense bowling, and I only say ‘intense’ because the boys got over competitive…. who would have thought?! The ladies lane took the evening at a more gentle pace and we all had a hoot. Keith, Josh and Nick got the highest scores of 135,134 & 133 and Josh just edged it across the two games.
Just last week we attended an evening art class at Liquid Art, hosted by the very talented artist Rachel Baker. We all had a go (with varying success!) at unleashing our creative side! With lots of chatting, laughing, and drinking… everyone ended up with a painting they were proud of. Everyone apart from Keith that is… who tried to trick everyone into thinking he painted a masterpiece, however it was found out that he ‘borrowed’ Rachel’s own artwork and tried to pass it off as his own!
Whose was your favourite?
There has been plenty more fun… with Riah, Gabby, Nick & Mel all enjoying Milton Keynes’ own Oktoberfest!
We love seeing the team having a blast!
Travel & Holidays!
Keith & Josh travelled to Rome for their annual father/son trip to support the European team in the Ryder Cup. They were both surprised to weigh less when they got home than when they departed… but I suppose any amount of Italian food would be burnt off after the 62 miles they walked around the course! They had a lot of fun and enjoyed ticking this off of their bucket list. It’s only right that we all plan ahead to shorten our own bucket lists after we spend so much time encouraging our clients to do the same! They said that getting up at 5am to queue for the grandstand was worth it… but I am yet to be convinced as it doesn’t like a holiday to me! Other highlights included the epic scenery in Rome, the banter of supporters around the course… and the food. Oh the food!
Tom stopped in Hong Kong on his travels and enjoyed the food and spectacular scenery. This night time shot across the harbour is a winner!
Jennie and her husband Nick took a trip to Derbyshire to hide away in a stunning woodland log cabin to relax and recharge after a very busy summer:
… all of this was happening whilst the team back at the office enjoyed the company of our new friend…
Learning & Conferences
USA Trip: Josh & Keith have been over to USA to mix with new communities and gather new ideas. Their trip took them to Philadelphia with a cohort of other keen UK financial planners to meet some of USA’s best financial planners. The opportunity to learn from others and visit US firms to borrow their best ideas (and share some of the things that our clients most love) proved to be an excellent experience for all involved. The trip culminated in attending the US Advanced Investment Conference in Charlotte, where they heard from Nobel prize winners Eugene Fama & Ken French. Josh was a little giddy at the opportunity but did resist the temptation to ask for autographs! They are true pioneers of modern investing and their work in the 80s & 90s paved the way for ‘evidenced based portfolios’ like our own, to be accessible to individuals, like you.
Gabby, Keith, and Tom all travelled into London for the 2023 ‘Octo Progressive Planners Conference‘. Keith delivered a well received keynote, while Gabby was awarded the prestigious ‘Nick Cann’ Award. You can learn more about this special award and the day in our dedicated blog post: HERE.
A couple of weeks later, Josh presented at our professional body annual conference, the ‘CISI Financial Planning Conference‘, with his US co-presenter Brendan Frazier. Josh’s session focused how we actually build financial plans at boosst and the audience of around 200 financial planners all seemed to learn a lot from the topics covered. In the post-event feedback it was ranked as a ‘top three’ session of the conference – which made all of the preparation worthwhile for Josh. We always enjoy opportunities to share our ideas with the wider profession.
Just last week Gabby, Tom, Keith, Josh, and Faye all travelled down to London for the Humans Under Management conference. The lineup was stellar, featuring top-notch speakers like human behaviouralist Daniel Crosby & communication expert Jane Adshead-Grant. The day was brought to a close by the headline act of Rory Sutherland, who delivered the closing keynote with aplomb. The whole event was a success for us attending, both in terms of the team learning opportunities and the chance to share ideas with other financial planners.
